Hand‑Carved Three‑Piece Bath Stone Hearth

These hearths are carved entirely by hand using traditional mallet‑and‑chisel techniques, giving you fine detailing around the outer edges of the three‑piece design. They are suitable for:

• Open fires

• Wood burners

• Multi‑fuel stoves

• Gas fires

• Electric fires

Standard Size & Specifications

• Width: 1200mm (supplied in three equal sections)

• Depth: 400mm at the deepest point

• Height: 50mm stone + recommended 10mm mortar bed = 60mm finished height

• Edge profile: Bullnosed front edge (as shown in the photo)

• Corners: 90° corners unless you request angled corners like the example shown

The three‑section layout allows for heat expansion, safe manual lifting, and good working practice.

Mortar & Bedding Requirements

You will receive matching pointing mortar, made from Bath stone dust and natural lime, which blends beautifully once dry.

For bedding the hearth:

• Use building sand and cement on concrete floors

• Use flexible floor tile adhesive on wooden floors (to allow movement)

• The bed must be solid and continuous, not spot‑bedded — no hollow spaces

Natural Stone Characteristics

Each hearth is unique. Our locally sourced Bath stone naturally contains:

• Shells

• Fossils

• Veining

• Mineral markings

These features formed over 145 million years and are part of the beauty of genuine natural stone. We never use reconstituted or imported hollow stone.
